Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a ‘catch-all’ term used to describe a gastro-intestinal condition where the cause is unknown. It is the most common gastro-intestinal disorder and there is no known cure. The prevalence of IBS is rising dramatically worldwide and women are 50% more likely to suffer than men.
Because every individual is unique the issues and solutions related to the problem are also as unique as your fingerprint. This means every solution to managing the condition has to be personalised to the individual. It’s a fact that GP’s do not have the time to spend with their patients to help solve the problem.

Genetic predisposition
Oversensitivity of the Gut (Hypersensitivity)
Muscular overactivity of the Gut (dysmotility)
Abnormal processing of pain signals from the Gut by the brain
Disturbance of the balance of the bacteria in the Gut (dysbiosis)

Some symptoms
There are different symptoms that can affect IBS suffers and they can have one symptom or a combination. Common symptoms are:
Diarrhoea
Constipation
Bloating
Stomach pain
Effects of some foods
Sometimes certain foods can trigger symptoms. Common problem foods include dairy and grains. As part of treatment we would look closely at diet, stress issues and analyse individual symptoms.
